2 New Devlogs
Misha added a new log about some more bug hunting in the game. Also, the first devlog ever from the new FX Artist, Neil who takes a look at some of the damage effects in Pirates of The Burning Sea.

Inside work, we've been pretty busy too. I edited the frigate article and reviewed a couple specs. Joe has a new plan for how our servers should work that's way cool. Joe fixed the bugs (turned out to be just two, really) that I reported in my last dev log and I re-tested sail damage. It's still not quite right: Augustus seems to think it should take way fewer broadsides at close range to just about destroy sails than it does. But I think it's now a tuning issue, not so much a code defect.
Joe also came up with a cool new way to do our toolbar buttons and such and he started implementing it. However, the initial chunk of work he did broke a bunch of stuff; it's always two steps forward, one step back. For example, almost all tool tips now say I have no target to grapple even though the button I'm hovering over has absolutely nothing to do with grappling. And Isildur managed somehow to break the batch file that supplies our shops with goods for trading. So all trading testing currently involves sugarcane bought from St. Johns. Not nearly as exciting as carrying Muscovado from an exotic locale to a major port for export to Europe, but it'll do for now.

Hello everyone! So, looks like this is my foray into the unfamiliar
realm of devlogs. I am an effects artist. For those of you who are
unfamiliar with what an fx artist does, he blows things up. Well, that's
the short of it anyway -- the fun part too, but I digress. Now on to the
interesting stuff.
I ran to The Home Depot the other day and spent some time talking with
the people in the wood department about different types of wood and how
they fracture, etc. It was amazing how much these guys knew about the
destruction of wood! They turned out to be a fantastic resource, after
we got past the oddity of the questions and a brief explanation of what
I do. So after a few hours there I headed home with a lot of wood, a
10lb sledge hammer, a decent sized crowbar, and a better understanding
of how wood splinters.
