First off, if you're not willing to use a little imagination or open to get involved with something that might grow more complex than your usual hack & slash - leave. Now. Still here? Good for you.

We at MM Hell have been out to introduce most of the upcoming so called "underdogs" of 2005, and the latest installation brings you: Reclamation. I will not sum up the interview, or even the game in a few phrases here, not because I couldn't but because it would probably make this a full featured Book. If this interview leaves you confused or hungry for more (both are very probable) you are very advised to look through the official Reclamation website that wields a good overview and lots of regular updates to keep you on the verge of development, storyline and other happenings.

If you've just left a game because you felt the developers are not involved enough, or there is a lack of communication, Reclamation will be one of the games that make you feel part of the team. Also, in case you didn't know, Face of Mankind, which is currently in Open Beta and available for download at our mirrors uses Lyra Studios' networking engine and in fact - a similar game system (not exactly like, but close to it) that is very focused on role-playing. So use your precious upcoming weekend to read up on Reclamation and test Face of Mankind to get your share of the role-playing pie.

Let me hand the virtual microphone over to Nandini and Jason.

Interview with Jason

Nandini: Before we go on with game related questions, please state your name and position at Lyra Studios.

Jason: Jason Kramer, Reclamation producer.

Nandini: For the readers that might not know about Reclamation yet, please sum up what the game is all about in a few phrases.

Jason: Imagine a world without physical limitations. A world where skill with your mind is as powerful as skill with a blade. A world where imagination and courage shape your destiny.

Become a great warrior fighting monsters and human enemies. Make friends and go adventuring. Rise to rule the destiny of a Great House. Become a wise and sought after Teacher and Mentor. Find romance. Play politics and intrigue endlessly for advantage and position.

In Reclamation everyone you meet is played by a real person. Each Great House is operated by human Rulers and Guardians. Each Quest you receive is written just for you by a human Teacher. Each adventure is shaped by the beliefs and desires of human players. Join us in the City of Dreams for an adventure in true Role Playing.

Reclamation is a massively multi-player online role-playing game with an emphasis on the power of role-playing in a unique and immersive world.

Nandini: Why would you recommend Reclamation and how does it differ from other MMORPGs?

Jason: Because Reclamation offers an MMORPG that is truly unique: unique in its emphasis on role-playing – a place where one is actually empowered to immerse one’s self in their character, unique in its setting – a dream world where ideologies vie for power. No other MMORPG supports and fosters role-playing in the way Reclamation does, no other.

Nandini: So Reclamation won't have any NPCs except for some of the nightmares. Where will the content (quests) originate from, if not from NPCs?

Jason: Players are empowered to facilitate their character goals. This in turn provides an almost limitless dynamic for active storylines. For example, you have the revolutionary Teaching system (http://www.reclamationgame.com/teachingsystem.0.html), and the Quest boards just to name a couple ways that we empower players. We also have a solid system for ongoing GM storylines for which we have years of experience. I mention this last bit, because while many games claim to have GM storylines, many do not have the experience running them that this team has. We understand the role-playing dynamic, its strengths and weaknesses, and make use of them in ways that are exciting for the player.

Nandini: Can you tell us a little more about the nightmare concept?

Jason: Nightmares are one of the enigmas of the dream world and as such I don’t want to give anything away, so I’ll point you to our Bestiary page.

Nandini: The idea of nightmares seems pretty new and unusual to me - how will this feature work? Will they walk/stand around or suddenly pop up? Are players able to or should they flee or avoid them?

Jason: Nightmares will perform all manner of actions, both typical and unusual. For example, GMs can possess any nightmare in the game at any time, and as such you will find that a nightmare, being a creature of chaos, can behave quite surprisingly. Yes, players will be able to flee, whether they’ll be able to get away is a different story. Moreover, some dreamers will experience their own "personal" nightmares.

Nandini: How can players create and add quests and are any special skills required for the process?

Jason: There are a variety of different ways to create and facilitate "quests" in Reclamation; they include the Teaching system, Mission boards, and Quest boards. The philosophy behind the mechanics of all three systems amounts to giving the player the tools and power to facilitate their in-character situations, whatever they may be. There are special in-game journals for keeping track of various quests. There are special arts that allow you to create, describe and offer a quest. There are special boards or terminals to describe and provide quests from a central area. More importantly, there are no "canned" quests. The imagination of the quest creator is the only limitation. The rewards that a character can offer for a completed quest vary greatly, anywhere from experience to items to arts to information, etc, etc.

Teacher characters can offer quests to learn new arts and improve existing arts. To attain the status of teacher, a dreamer must go through the Ordainment Ritual.

Guardians and Rulers can create quests on the Mission Boards and both are afforded a daily amount of experience that can be used specifically with these boards. Guardians and Rulers are ranks within the House system.

Teachers, Guardians and Rulers can all create quests on the Quest Boards, and all are afforded a daily amount of experience that can be used specifically with these boards.
